Greenwood Rye is a modern jam-grass band featuring, formed in Nashville as the house band for the bluegrass supper club, Jane’s Hideaway. The band, led by Shawn Spencer (Seven Handle Circus) on Guitar and Vocals, and a cast of Nashville’s finest players
The group specializes in fun modern songs and fresh, renditions of eclectic covers done with the beautiful sounds of acoustic instruments.
Regular features include Oliver Craven (Straybirds, Western Centuries), Frank Evans (Slocan Ramblers), Sasha Ostrovsky (Bering Straight, Darius Rucker), Gideon Klein (Rodney Atkins), Josh Rilko (Sierra Ferrell, Lindsey Lou), Catherine MacDonald (Bonner Black), Tony Aichelle (Travis Tritt, Morgan Wallen), David Freeman (Grass is Dead), CJ Colendrea (Clay Walker, Alan Jackson), Tristen Norfleet, Taylor Shuck, Leland Nelson, Mike Reilly, and others filling out roles on Fiddle, Mandolin, Bass, Dobro, and Banjo.
Spencer previously fronted Seven Handle Circus, who took their modern bluegrass-fusion style on tour, playing with bands like Mumford and Sons, Zack Brown Band, and Justin Townes Earle as well as their own headlining shows across the country. Their album “Whiskey Still and Sleeping Pill” climbed to #86 on the AMA Americana Chart. They were featured on Conan, People Magazine, Paste Magazine, and more.
